Fort George, Inverness

Fort George was built by George II after the 1746 defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie at Culloden.  It was built as defence against further Jacobite unrest. Fort George is an impressive artillery fortification with it’s garrison buildings and artillery defences.   It provides an insight into not only 18th century military life but also the present day with the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland based there.
